Swiss Pixie Birthday

I received another birthday card, and this one is from Janneke, one of my fellow Design Team Members over at All That Scraps. 

I am so sad that this is my last month with such an awesome group of ladies.  I have been in tears every time I log into the forum, and read a message from someone.  I have been with the group since the very beginning, so it is going to be hard to say goodbye.

I am still going to be using these images, I mean how CUTE are they ?!?  Christine does such an amazing job with her stamps.

Well, I had best jet.  I have to make a gingerbread house at school with Jayden.  I also have my last class of 2009 tonight, and I am excited for the Christmas project that we are doing.  There will be a tutorial coming up in the next week or so.  That way, y'all can make one, too.  Have fun and happy stamping!!

Prepping For 2010 !!

Whether we want it or not, 2010 is sneaking roaring up on us pretty fast!  I am doing my final classes of the year this week, and this is one of the projects we are creating.  It is the same thing we did last year, but it is often requested, so I brought it back.

There is no stamping involved, just used patterned paper to go with the seasons of the months.  We didn't add anything this year, since I found they were harder to put in the checkbooks.  The directions are in this link, and the 2010 Calendar is HERE.  These make GREAT stocking stuffers, or little gifts for co-workers.  They take no time at all to put together,and are great at using up scraps of DSP that we all have in piles waiting to be used.  Have fun and happy stamping!!

 

A Rose For Me - 2nd Post Today

Patricia sent me this lovely card - the rose is COVERED in glitter!

I love how the polka dot ribbon matches the brads.  She even scored a frame around the outer edge.  So many little details to make an overall statement.  Thanks Patricia !

 

Not A Snow Day

We do not have snow days up where we are in the great frozen north.  We get a whole lot of snow, but we don't get days off for them.  We get a different type of da off, kind of.  Here is the weather today...

Now for you Americans, it is -41.8F.  Earlier today, it was -49F.  So, here in the great frozen north, IT IS FREEZING.  The school is actually NOT CLOSED today, I could have brought the boys to school myself.  The only thing that stops, is at -40 or colder the buses will not run.  Teachers, and support staff, are still at the school, the buses just don't run.  I want to show you what it looks like outside on this fine day.

BEAUTIFUL !!  There s not a cloud in the sky, not much of a breeze.  But go outside, and you think your lungs are going to freeze shut right inside your chest!!  Enjoy your day, but don't come visit.  Wait until summer ... hehehe

 

Vinegar Bath

I have had comments a few emails about the vinegar bath that I gave Dylan to help with his Chicken Pox.

You add 1 cup of white vinegar, and 1/2 cup baking soda to a shallow bath.  Make sure the sores are covered for 15-20 mins.  Dylan just laid and relaxed in the water, only his face out.  Then I patted him dry (new towels EVERY bath) and added the Aveeno Anti-Itch Lotion. 

He had been screaming for the WHOLE day, literally.  I could not get him to calm down.  I gave him the bath, and the next day, NO MORE ITCHING.  Literally.  No.  More.  Itching.  I won't come out and say this will work for everyone, but it worked for us.  I gave him a bath 3 days in a row, and not one day did he itch.  For that I am, and HE was, very grateful.

Happy Birthday - TO ME !!

I had my birthday this past week, and with the way my week was going, it didn't seem like the time to celebrate.  I was too busy being a nursemaid, but at least I did not have to make supper that day!

I got this in the mail ON my birthday, how awesome is that ?!?  It was a sweet surprise to see.  Thanks, Carla, for thinking of me, and sending me this adorable card!

This week, we also had one of my favorite weather phenomenons happen - Hoar Frost.  It so rarely happens here, since it is windy most of the time.  I'll explain what it is for those that don't know, and then post some pictures.

Hoar Frost happens when there is a thick fog.  The moisture in the low clouds freezes onto trees, grass, everything.  It looks like it has snowed, but it is a fragile ice cover that hangs on.  The moment the slightest breeze comes along, it is gone!

Stampin' Up! is going UNMOUNTED!!

Can you cheer with me ?? I am doing a serious happy dance over here.  Starting on January 5, 2010, you will be able to purchase stamps with your choice of wood mount or clear mount.  There will be blocks for sale, as well.  There store in a DVD case made just for them, so storage is not going to be an issue.  They are definitely cheaper than buying wood mount, and both stamps use the same kind of rubber!  They is still no compromising with quality from Stampin' Up!

Getting Back To Normal

Whatever that is ... LOL !!

Dylan is doing a lot better, itch wise.  We found something else that worked amazing, a vinegar and baking soda bath.  We gave it to him one night before bed, and by the next morning - NO MORE ITCHING!!  Nothing!!  So he gets that bath everyday now, and we don't need any anti-itch cream at all.  He does have some infected pox, though, so I had to go to the doctor about that.  Otherwise, I think he is on the mend.  Now for the good news ...

A friend of mine had a baby - YAY !!  The best part ?  On her husband's side of the family, it is the first.  First time grandparents are so cute to watch, don't you think?  While parents have the lovingly scared look in their eyes (they just don't know what is all to come), grandparents have been through it all, and just ENJOY IT !!  So, after the boys went to bed last night, I had to whip out a card.

I havebeen trying to come up with more interesting layouts, and I make a record of them in a sketchbook.  As per the card, you can tell the baby is a little girl, and you know she is going to be spoiled with love.  The set I used is Gingersnaps Oh Baby! from All That Scraps.  The sentiment is from a retired Stampin' Up! hostess set.

I am also trying to use more than one type of patterned paper on a card.  So many of you talented card makers can mix and match your DP and come up with amazing creations, and I have a HARD time with it.  This is the only one I will post for you ... lol.  Maybe the next ones will keep getting better.  Have fun and happy stamping!!

You Have GOT To Be Kidding Me !!

It seems like one thing has brought on another with our boys.  Dylan now has chicken pox!!  I am keeping him on the Nintendo Wii, so hopefully he won't scratch too much ... LOL.  While dabbing all of his pox, I counted more than 400.  It take me about a half hour to get to them all, then it is almost time to start over!

He woke up yesterday morning covered, so I spent the whole day covering him with Calamine lotion.  That stuff DOES NOT help at all.  I was reapplying every 20 minutes!  After going online, and talking to a friend, I have some new options that are working much better today.  I put him in an oatmeal bath a couple times a day, and am using Aveeno Anti-Itch Lotion.  This stuff lasts about 4-5 hours before you have to spread on more.  I can handle that a lot better!

So, it took me all day yesterday, and part of this morning to finally finish the card I was working on.
