Gifted Purse Tutorial !!

Both boys have been emptied the contents of their stomachs a few times today, so I have been doing a bit of cleaning!  They are now watching Pirates Who Don't Do Anything, while the Jello cools in the fridge.  Now just to find something for Russ and me to eat and supper is set.  Now, for what you've been waiting for, gather your crafting gear, it is time get busy!

 Here is what you will be needing :

1. 1 piece of CS  9 ¾ X 6 ½
2. 1 piece of CS  4 X 4 ¾
3. 1 piece of CS  5 X ¾
4. 1 piece of patterned paper 3 ⅞ wide, but at least 4 inches long
5. sticky strip
6. scoring tool
7. scissors
8. craft knife
9. brads / eyelets
10. mat pack / piercing tool
11. border punch
12. glue

 
Remove your cutting blade!!  With the short side of the largest CS along the top o the scoring tool,score at 1 ¼ and 5¼.  Turning the long side against the top, score at 4 and 5 ¾.

Taking the next size CS, score at 2 ½ and 4 ¼.  The narrowest piece needs to be scored at a ½ inch from each end.  So you score one side, turn it around and score the other.

Fold the largest CS on the score lines, and then cut them on each side up to the score line.  Have the side that you folded in face down on the table and put two pieces of sticky strip opposite each other as close to the score line as possible.  This will be in the middle cut section.

Now flip it over, and add two long pieces of sticky strip to the outside edge at the top and down both sides.  It only needs to go to the score line.  Now you are ready to assemble your box.  Removing the red liner on the backside, fold in the flap with no sticky strip on it, and adhere it to the center piece.

Now you remove the longer red strip on the same side, and fold it in, adhering it to the bottom and the side flap.  Repeat on the other side to create the box part of the purse.

Fold the next piece of CS on the score lines, making a J.  On the long side of the J, you can now use your punch to make the lovely edge for the front of the purse.

Then, you can adhere you patterned paper onto the lid, as well as the sticky strip on the opposite edge from the punched side..  The size of the piece above the punched edge depends on the punch you use, but the other piece should measure 3 ⅞ X 1 ⅝.  Then on the handle piece, add two pieces of sticky strip close to the score lines on each end.  If you want to add a strip of CS to the handle, flip it over and do it now.

Stick your handle down with the sticky strip, centering it on the top.  Use your mat pack and piercing tool to create an hole for brads, eyelets, etc.  Now, would be the time to do any embellishing on the front of the lid.  Remove the red liner and adhere the lid to the inside of the box, right along the top edge.

At this point, if you have some adhesive velcro dots, you can adhere that to the lid and then press it onto the box for the closure.  If you want the lid to latch, follow these steps.

Punch the slot punch on the lid about 1 inch up from the edge.  Fold the slot forward and make a line with a pencil on the box, approximately where the slot would fit into the front.  Using a craft knife , cut a slit about 1 inch long.  Now, the box should close after you push the slot forward and in.  Remember, if you should use this tutorial PLEASE do not take credit as our own!  Link back here, so we can check them out. I used the snowman paper for a reason - I made a purse for some snowman soup!!  I filled the box with hot chocolate powder, marshmallows, and crushed candy canes for sprinkling.  What a quick gift idea for those special people in our lives that we don't normally buy for, but want to give a little something.  I am thinking of adding a snowman soup tag, so it will be themed.  Hope you enjoyed this, have fun and happy stamping!!

 
 

Another Purse :)

Here is another quick teaser!  I have to post the tutorial in a bit, because now Jayden had chicken pox.  He did get the vaccination, so I'm hoping that it won't be as bad as Dylan.  The pictures are all edited, I just don't have the time to type it all up right now.  Come back in a bit and it should be up, or sign up for email notification on your left under my picture ...

You can see I changed the lid a bit for this one.  Instead of using the punch along the bottom, I marked 1 inch in from each corner, and then I cut it off on the diagonal.  Just for something different and pretty.

Brrrr !

I am not looking forward to the week!  That wind chill of -47C that I have highlighted is -54.4F.  Needless to say, we did not go to church today.  Vehicles tend to not start, or even want to keep running in temperatures that low.  I am going to be baking today to help warm up the house.  The furnace and fireplace together are working hard to keep an even climate in the house.

Since we are not going anywhere, I will also be working on that tutorial that everyone is asking for.  I do know that you want them ... hehehe ... I just REALLY appreciate the feedback .

 
 

Sneak Peek TEASER !!

Here is 3 different shots of the project that I designed for my last class.  My 3D creations are almost always designed out of necessity.  I had some lotions to give away, and needed something special to put them in.  I measured how high, wide and deep they would have to be, and came up with this!  The girls loved making them, and though they never got lotion, they each got a package of chocolate for the inside.  So , you want the tutorial as well ?!?

 
 
 

Christmas Candy Cane Kisses

I saw a recipe on the internet and HAD to make it.  It looks so yummy and Christmas-y all at the same time.  I call them Chocolate Candy Cane Kiss Cookies, but change the Kiss and you change the name ... hehehe.

These new Kisses that came out this year are awesome.  The candy cane ones have crunchy bits of yummy goodness inside.  I am also making the same cookies with the Mint Truffle Kisses, but that will happen tomorrow.

I will give you the recipe, and you can change the Kisses out to suit any occasion. 

Chocolate Kiss Cookies   

1. 1 cup butter
2. 1 1/2 cups sugar
3. 2 eggs
4. 1 teaspoon vanilla
5. 2 cups flour
6. 1/2 cup cocoa power
7. 1 teaspoon baking soda
8. 1/4 teaspoon salt

Preheat oven to 350F.  Cream butter, sugar, eggs and vanilla until fluffy.  Add all the dry ingredients, and mix until well combined.  Roll into tablespoon sized balls (I use a Pampered Chef scoop, so that I don't get my hands dirty and they stay in balls.) and place onto a cookie sheet.  Bake for 8 minutes, remove from oven and push a Kiss into the center of each cookie.  Put back into oven for another 30 seconds to 1 minute.  Remove, let cool, and try not to eat them all in one sitting!

Swiss Pixie Birthday

I received another birthday card, and this one is from Janneke, one of my fellow Design Team Members over at All That Scraps. 

I am so sad that this is my last month with such an awesome group of ladies.  I have been in tears every time I log into the forum, and read a message from someone.  I have been with the group since the very beginning, so it is going to be hard to say goodbye.

I am still going to be using these images, I mean how CUTE are they ?!?  Christine does such an amazing job with her stamps.

Well, I had best jet.  I have to make a gingerbread house at school with Jayden.  I also have my last class of 2009 tonight, and I am excited for the Christmas project that we are doing.  There will be a tutorial coming up in the next week or so.  That way, y'all can make one, too.  Have fun and happy stamping!!

Prepping For 2010 !!

Whether we want it or not, 2010 is sneaking roaring up on us pretty fast!  I am doing my final classes of the year this week, and this is one of the projects we are creating.  It is the same thing we did last year, but it is often requested, so I brought it back.

There is no stamping involved, just used patterned paper to go with the seasons of the months.  We didn't add anything this year, since I found they were harder to put in the checkbooks.  The directions are in this link, and the 2010 Calendar is HERE.  These make GREAT stocking stuffers, or little gifts for co-workers.  They take no time at all to put together,and are great at using up scraps of DSP that we all have in piles waiting to be used.  Have fun and happy stamping!!

 

A Rose For Me - 2nd Post Today

Patricia sent me this lovely card - the rose is COVERED in glitter!

I love how the polka dot ribbon matches the brads.  She even scored a frame around the outer edge.  So many little details to make an overall statement.  Thanks Patricia !

 

Not A Snow Day

We do not have snow days up where we are in the great frozen north.  We get a whole lot of snow, but we don't get days off for them.  We get a different type of da off, kind of.  Here is the weather today...

Now for you Americans, it is -41.8F.  Earlier today, it was -49F.  So, here in the great frozen north, IT IS FREEZING.  The school is actually NOT CLOSED today, I could have brought the boys to school myself.  The only thing that stops, is at -40 or colder the buses will not run.  Teachers, and support staff, are still at the school, the buses just don't run.  I want to show you what it looks like outside on this fine day.

BEAUTIFUL !!  There s not a cloud in the sky, not much of a breeze.  But go outside, and you think your lungs are going to freeze shut right inside your chest!!  Enjoy your day, but don't come visit.  Wait until summer ... hehehe
