I made this and it is so good. Next time I make it I will however cut back on the sugar as it is a bit sweet for my taste, but oh so good.

You made my mouth water with this picture :) Having a Czech background, I used to help my grandmother make this. However, she used a sweet bread dough with yeast in it and it is DELICIOUS!!! Plum, red current and blueberry, cherry, and a few other types were always stocked in our freezer. My brother and I used to fight over the left over dough (it tasted so good but sure bloated your tummy with all that yeast in it) and also the leftover topping. My g-ma would add a bit of brown sugar to the mix and it really added to the flavour! Still enjoy a nibble of that topping :)

Needless to say, I have the recipe and even help my mom make it once in a while so I know how to do this and pass it on to my kids! Plus it is a LOT easier to make than yeast dough dumplings with fruit in them -- have the potatoe dough ones mastered but the yeast dough ones are TRICKY, and you have to watch the boiling part like a hawk.

Okay, I now have to get a rag to wipe the drool off my keyboard as my taste buds and mouth are working overtime just thinking of these wonderful foods!

I have some strawberries in my freezer right now...will definitely try this! Will using whole frozen instead of sliced be a problem you think. Just didn't know if it would still cook evenly.

we love apple crisp, rhubarb cobbler etc...so I'm betting we'd love this too...do you think apples would be too juicy? Seems like it might make the bottom soggy?

This sounds like Fruit Crisp (or Fruit Crumble) but with an extra layer on the bottom? Yummy! I will have to try it out sometime soon...
