Waving back Julie! Actually we were in Hague this last week so I waved in your general direction as well! I don't have any pictures of me by the Mile 0 Post - not so special when you live here, I guess. I should make a special effort to take the kids there one day. And I think this area is pretty great - I've blogged about it with more photos on my art blog here. https://angelafehr.blogspot.com/2008/04/loving-peace-river-country-despite-snow.html

Actually I live just North of Grande Prairie. You have to drive through G.P. on the way to F.S.J. so I thought of you driving by.

Great pictures Julie! They truly warmed my heart. I have the same picture of my husband and I at that sign post in Dawson Creek from 10 years ago. My best friend was teaching up there and my husband who grew up in Cheticamp, a small french village had never been further West than Halifax so we flew up and went for a 2 week summer visit! The friendly people, the gorgeous scenery, the elk ribs under the Northern Lights... Thank you for bringing back all those precious memories :)

Thanks for the travelogue. I love traveling, but have not had much of a chance to do so recently. I live in the Chicago IL area and would love to visit Canada and Alaska too! I really enjoyed your photos. Darlene

OMG Julie, you made me homesick!! We lived in Ft.St.John for almost 15 years(1974-1988)and they were some of the best times we had. Our three boys grew up there. We probably know some of the same people. I still keep in touch with folks from there. It was and still is a beautiful area. Thanks for the pictures.

I left my heart in "Alaska". In early fall 1991 I took a 23-day escorted bus tour from Missoula MT up north and what an adrenalin rush the whole trip was. I fantasize about returning...slower hopefully since our trip was a one-nite stand most all the way. Yes, we stayed o'nite at Dawson Creek Inn I believe was the name of it.

Thanks so much for sharing your trip with us, Julie! I really enjoyed this post.

I have lived in Alaska for 34 years. Just recently moved to Colorado. I have driven the "Alkan" several times. I do have photos somewhere of this very area. It was a different sign, but saying the same stuff if I remember. I traveled to Alaska when I was 10 back out of Alaska when I was in college and then back to Alaska at the end of the year. So I guess I have only done it three times. My husband has been back and forth three times too. It is my favorite drive I think. Driving this highway with my daughters is one of the items on my "things to do" list.
