I know you think I am going to say grasshoppers, or gophers. No, I don't wish for that, but I don't want what we had last night either. We have been getting a lot of rain lately - about 15 inches, so far this spring! That is an INSANE amount of water for our area. Only about 60% of the crops have been planted this year because farmers just cannot get on the fields. Well, last night, we had another DOOZY of a storm. Here are some pictures that a friend of mine took of the DEVASTATING after effects.
The first shot is the pretty one - I watched the lightening for about 3 hours last night before bed. Literally it was one right after the other for that length of time, so beautiful. For the first 2.5 hours or so, there was no rain, just lightening and soft thunder. Then, it started to pour...
Look how high the water is on her fence in the back of the yard !!
This was taken AFTER the water had receded a bit, I wonder how many of these people will be able to start their cars today ?!?
For those that live in Saskatoon and area, you will recognize this Confed intersection - apparently, it was 5 feet under water in a matter of minutes!!
Same intersection, different angle.
Another friend of mine woke up to 7 inches of water in his basement! While this may be normal for some people, we in the prairies in Canada are not really used to having this type of thing happen. Please pray for all the families that woke up this morning to SEVERE damage in their homes. Many are going to need help. We are not a part of that misfortune, that the Good Lord for that!!

I am definitely praying for the people affected by flooding. I live in central Wisconsin and we were hit with this in 2008. Google Lake Delton flooding and you will see houses falling into lakes & floating down rivers! My yard and basement flooded three times that summer! I hope no one was severely injured or that no family heirlooms were lost!

We were traveling in Canada recently and saw all the water in the fields at that time. We heard people in restaurants talking about how hard it had been on the farmers and that some had already planted twice. I can't imagine what this latest storm will do to them. They are certainly in our thoughts and prayers.

Praise God that you didn't get any of that flood damage. Sure hate to hear about those poor folks there!

Oh how awful!!! It's going to take a long while to dry out....and the mold spores..... Keeping you all in my prayers.
I live in Sunny Arizona where the only weather change we have is from hot to hotter.

I live in Regina and thank heavens my yard slopes downwards. We didn't get rain last night and I hope it's not coming our way. We've had enough rain that it's going to affect our economy. Those pictures are just amazing!

Having been born and raised in Saskatoon, I am familiar with all these areas, I find it so hard to believe, but I know there have been other years when that exact area looked the same and all the town houses at laurier village had to be evacuated. That same flood, which I think was in 1983 or 84 flooded the underpass at idylwyld and a person drowned. It blew the manholes right off our street with the water pressure in the sewers. It was pretty scary. This has certainly been a strange year weatherwise. Luckily, in Regina last night we only had wind and didn't receive any rain.

About three years ago we had severe flooding here in Calpe Spain. Normally this is a dry part of Spain but this time it was devastating and was declared a disater area. Some fourty cars are still missing having been swept out to sea.It took two years to repair the damage.I can sympathise with all of your friends and neighbours who were caught up in your floods and wish them all a drier future.

OMG that is a LOT of water! This must be the year of rain storms. A co-worker sent me some similar pics from Oklahoma City just last week! I'm glad to hear that you weren't too affected by all the rain, although, it probably means that you can't go too far! Here's to hoping that the storm sewers have been properly designed, and that the water will receed fairly quickly!

Wow it is amazing what a big rain storm can do, just like in Tennessee recently.
