It is my nephew's birthday party this weekend, and I have not told Dylan about it. I love to surprise him like that ... hehehe.

This is the card I made for the birthday boy, and it is perfectly suited for him, color wise. All of the colors in the card were in his bedroom except the red! I used the Celebrations DSP (#117164) with pacific point, real red, and white CS.  The robot from Lots of Bots (#115293 wood ; #120009 clear) was stamped on watercolor paper and colored with my markers. I used real red with the modern label punch a coupl times to make a mat for the image, putting brads in each point. This layer was attached with dimensionals.

Oldies But Goodies Blog Hop

I was asked to play along  with the Design D.I.V.A.S blog hop, and the requirement is to use something in your stash that is at least 6 months old. Well, the stamp I chose has not been used for a couple years, I think, so I should be good ... lol. You may have come here from Karen's Blog,  or you may have started here.  The start of the blog hop is HERE, but let's get to looking at my card.

 

Classic Pick-Ups is a retired set that I will NEVER give up!! It makes the PERFECT guy cards and the coloring doesn't have to be exact because of the antique feel of the images. To color the truck, I used real red, tangerine tango and daffodil delight for the flames and crumb cake for the rest, using my FREE  TUTORIAL HERE to blend the colors.

The image is stamped on watercolor paper with black stazon, the matted on red and black. It was attached with dimensionals to the crumb cake layer after I added the twill tape (again, years since I have used it), and the copper hodepodge (retired). The sentiment on the bottom is flanked on either side by some paper piercing. Then all of this was again added to the black base using dimensionals. It was nice to be challenged to use an older set, and even better that I made a "guy" card!!

Never Ending Card - Decorated

So, here is the finished card, all ready for you to CASE  :) I went with a masculine /vintage theme, and I totally think it worked.

 

  So, that map DSP is actually black and vanilla, but I decided to spruce it up a bit. I just rubbed the colors on to where I thought they would go on a real map, and because I used pastels, it is really subdued, which is what you need for a vintage feel.

Then I added the side panels and the sentiment on the bottom.

 

This is more of the same pack of DSP (Newsprint #117166). I used one of the spinner brads on the map, kinda like a spin and follow where it goes.

 

 

This is the last "card" and I purposely put the lined paper there, so I could write a birthday message. Those are all sides, and the next turn would be back the front. I hope you got a few ideas on how to finish yours off. Tootles, have fun and happy stamping!!

 

Birthday For A Boy

I needed to make a card for my nephew - turning 11 - and I think this one is right on track !! I loved it, and my boys wanted it, so it should be a gooder ... hehehe.

 

So, I started with the Celebrations DSP(#117164) and went from there. I have a 5 X 5 base of black, next was red, and then the DSP that I edged with black ink. The black mat is 4 X 3 adding the pacific point mat, and then whisper white image layer  I utilized the Extreme Elements (#115181) and Extreme Dirt Bike (#115175) and the colors bashful blue, pear pizazz and pacific point.

The biker is stamped, cut out and popped up. The large star(#119875) was punched out, scored to make the lines and I added the black brad(#119730). The sentiment is from On your Birthday (#111664) and it was punched with the Modern Label (#119849). I and cut the bashful blue mat and then attached some of the black flourish rhinestones (#120987). All in all, I think it will be exactly what he will like.  Tootles, have fun and happy stamping!!

 

Grunge Rock Birthday

Through all of the circumstances that we are praising God in, Dylan has not yet had his birthday party.  When he saw this card that I made, he claimed it for his own and instructed me to give it to him when we finally have it.

I wanted a collage type feel to the card, and ended up using EVERY STAMP in this new set, Grunge Rock (#120555 clear ~ #117080 wood).  The colors is a new combo taken from the new Stampin' Up! Color Coach (#120148) : cajun craze, marina mist, crumb cake and early espresso.  I used the mat pack (#105826) and piercing tool (#116631) to pierce the card and Dylan's favorite part was that I used staples ... lol.  On the marina mist layer, I also used the new background stamp, Wonderfully Worn (#118533).

On another note, I ordered the DSP for the Designer Paper Club and will let you know as soon as they arrive.

Can You Figure It Out?

I the better part of a half hour (hehehe) making this, now I have to make a few more.

This is the invite for Dylan's birthday party, and I am wondering if you can guess what we are going to be doing?  I do want it to be OBVIOUS, so that the kids will be excited when they first see the invite, without reading all the information.  The colors I used are all from the Brights family : pacific point, real red, and daffodil delight.  So, is it plain as day?  Tootles, have fun and happy stamping!!

 

The Last Of Them

Well, I got the video part of the tutorial done last night, and will have that up and running this afternoon some time.  The picture one is going to be done this weekend, though, since I have a grad tonight.  Meanwhile, you can feast your eyes on the last of the teachers gifts, and also a masculine version.

I used DSP for the flowers (retired, don't know the name), and sponge the edge of the one flower to really show off the petals.  There are so many things you can do with these flower, TRY THEM !!  The tutorial is HERE.

This is the masculine one.  I made a tag (just a rectangle with the corners cut off), after stamping on my images from Natures Silhouettes (#111542) in chocolate chip and the new crumb cake ink!!  The sentiment os from Thank You Kindly (#111700).  I probably would have made a smaller tag, but we needed to write a message on the back.  This is the last year that Wally will be driving the bus for our kids, he is retiring.  Both the boys signed their names on the back, as well as Russ and I with a little note.  He is a hunter, hence the image.  If you want to make the almond bark for yourself, or a gift for anyone, HERE is the step-by step.  Well, I better get to work getting that video edited.  Have fun and happy stamping!!

 
 

Groovy Grad

I also have other cards that are on my to-do list this week.  My nephew is graduating and it was time to whip up another guy card.

Can I hear a "WOW" ...    *dead air*  ...  Is anyone out there??

This is one heckofa bright card!  This is from the new DSP pack Garden Gala, in the upcoming catalog, and I thought it was perfect for a guy card.  There is a lot going on with this card, without having to put a lot ON the card.

I used the Happy Grad stamp (#117006) from the summer mini, and used my markers to color the whole thing.  I also used the Square Lattice folder (#119976) on the olive CS for another eye catching area.  The only embellishments are the 3 chocolate jumbo brads.  It makes for a bright card, but not too busy.

I have had a few comments and emails lately about how  finish the inside of my cards.

STAMPED SENTIMENT.

That's it.  I don't fancy it up or anything, since no one really looks at the inside of the card anyway. Except for the first time they open it.  I mean, they don't display the inside of the card facing out on the table or wherever, so I don't feel the need to decorate it.  Besides, being Mennonite, I'm all about saving, and it would just be a waste of paper if no one would see it ... Packed With Love For Father's Day

I thought I would post some cards that I have made in the past 3.5 years here on this blog -yes, THREE AND A HALF YEARS  !!  I bet there is a lot that you have missed, even if you have been coming for awhile.  There are lots of guy cards in Masculine Cards Category, but here are few that I am going to highlight for you.

Screws and Gears

Most men like to tinker with tools, get their hands dirty in the gears of a motor, and screw things back together (with a few left over parts ... hehehe).  This card I made is for the gear head, or wannabe, but is still "fancy" enough for a Father's Day card.

I used Old Olive, Whisper White and Brushed Gold CS.  The DSP is from the Welcome Neighbor pack during Sale-A-Bration.  The card is 5X5 square, another deviation from the regular style.  I stamped the screws, and nuts in olive on olive from the Lots Of Bots set (#115293) and rubbed the edges in my ink-pad.  I used the newest punch on the gold CS to make my own embellishments, Extra Large Cogs Double (#118873).  I pierced the knobs and scored the centers of the circles to make them look  like screw heads.  The sentiment is from the Well Scripted set, and I used the ticket corner punch(#107214) for that layer.  Even though the Lots of Bots set is geared more for kids, pun intended ... lol, using this image from the set makes for a great Dad card, as well.  Tootles, have fun and happy stamping!!
