I answered. I woke up this morning to 30 new emails...Box Tutorial, Pretty Please?? So here it is, have fun creating!!
First, gather the supplies. I used mellow moss and Enchante DP, but you can pick what ever you want, and change it up!
- One solid CS 8.5 X 8.5
- One patterned CS 6 X 6
- Scoring tool
You can also have a patterned bottom if you like, I just wanted sturdier paper for my base, in case I wanted to put heavier stuff in.
I will be showing the base first. Score all around the 8.5 X 8.5 CS at 2.5. This will leave a center square measuring 3.5 X 3.5, and this will mean the box will be 2.5 inches high!! Leaves lots of room in there for anything you want (like chocolate ... hehehe).
If you are using DP for this part of the box, try not to press to hard with your scoring tool, since it may cut your paper, and that would SUCK!! I ahve done that way too many times to keep count - AHHHHHHH!
Now, you will need to cut 4 of the score lines, all the way around. I did the one on the left of the side that was facing me. I folded one of the flaps up, so you would know what I meant.
Then I added my sticky strip, one on the end of the flap and one on the side flap. Here is a pic of how it goes together.
So the put flap fold in, and you use sticky strip on the edge of the box AND the edge of the flap. This way, it won't be hanging on the inside of your box.
Now you need to score your 6 X 6 lid at 1 1/8 on all sides. At this point, you will not put it together yet (though it will be done the same as the base).
All decorating should be done at this point (to see what I did click here). Don't put it together yet, you need to make the holes for the ribbons to go through, since this is what keeps the lid on the box when you want to give it away.
So I marked where on the box I wanted my ribbon to go across, and then made a slit with my knife. Don't think I didn't try to use the punch, but it wouldn't go in that far. Now you will put your box together, like the base, and add the ribbon through the holes. Put the lid on your box, and tie it up, all done. For more shots of the finished box, see the link above!!
Thank you SO much for this! I was looking for a template for a box just like this!! I am so glad I found your site! I will use this box to store the ornament I bought to represent the first Christmas with my husband - thank you!
