I got sent a HUGE box of CS to play with awhile ago. Nope, not from Stampin' Up!, but from a company called WorldWin Papers. They have quite a few paper lines, including ColorMates and DoubleMates, Petallics, and specialty papers, just to name a few. They are such vibrant colors, and boast many shades of one color. They asked me to be the Guest Designer for their blog and store for March, so I got to play!!
Here was my first project for them:
I made a lunch sack scrapbook for my mom. She loves to play in her garden as much as I do, but she has more time. Needless to say, her yard was like a park. I said was, since they moved this past year, and this spring, she'll start all over!
I wanted her to have this as memories from her last garden, but then she will have her favorite ideas all in one spot, to try to recreate it again.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The paper was all from WorldWin and I will list them here.
- Racy Raspberry ColorMate (65lb)
- Racy Raspberry DoubleMate (90 lb Textured 12 X 12)
- Deep Heritage Black (65lb)
- Medium Fairy Tale Pink (65lb)
I am so in {heart} with the DoubleMates CS!! It is double sided CS, so when you tear it, you get an awesome dual-colored deckle edge. I used it for the spine on this scrapbook. Now here are the deets to create one for yourself!
I used 4 lunch sacks, but you can make it as big or small as you want. First thing I did was to cut them all to 10" long. I wanted to get the zig-zagged ends off, but you can leave it the original length if you want. You just adjust your scoring for that. ETA : I was cutting ALL the lunch sacks at once. With this cutter, you can cut through 4 sheets of white CS or 3 sheets of colored CS all AT THE SAME TIME!!
Then you score each piece at 5 inches, for the center. Now, you will lay them as I did in this picture. Each end will be opposite as you are layering them. Now you fold them in half, and this is your book.
I took a piece of DoubleMates paper, and tore it so that I would get the dual colored edge. I then folded it over the end of my book to be the spine. I had about 1.5 inches on each side, but you can make it as big or small as you like. Then you need to punch holes, through all the layers for the ribbon to hold the book together.
I then threaded my ribbon through like a shoe lace, but you can also do it like THIS. I wanted this book to be a bit more refined, since I used such rich colors. You can really see the dual colored edge here - isn't it awesome?!?
Now all that is left, is to finish up the cover. I only glue down the spine, after I add the rest of the front cover, so that it will all stay together.
I then stamped the flower from Morning Soft on the pink, layering it on the duo-raspberry and the black. I had punched the corners first with my ticket corner, and stamped my sentiment with my $1 alpha set in black. I used my word window punch to add the tab, and put in three Rich Regals eyelets, using the crop-a-dile. This whole panel was added to the front of the scrapbook with dimensionals.
The awesome thing about these scrapbooks are the little pockets you get on every other page. I think for this, it would be great for little baggies of seeds of my Mom's favorite flowers, and other fun garden stuff, like say, a ...LOL. You can either cover all the pages with CS, or leave some, so you can enjoy the fact that it is made from a lunch sack. I chose to cover every other page, but Mom has to add everything else, since it is hers. I have just shown you another way that kitchen stuff can be used in the craft room. Have fun and happy stamping!!
very beautiful! I wish i can have the same talent.. keep up the good work.. :)
Hi Julie, visit your blog every day and I am going to try one of these great paper bag albums myself!
I see you using the SU paper cutter- can you let me know how many pieces of SU cardstock it can cut through at one time? Thanks so much!
what a neat journal idea, I haven't tried punching holes for the spine when I made one of these but I do love the look, also like the idea of cutting off the ragged edge to make it a bit more cleaner!
